Gilchrist Foundation Helps Support Saturday in the Park

Saturday in the Park is a summer highlight for those living in and around Sioux City. The outdoor concert event showcases some of the biggest and brightest stars who perform live for around 25,000 people. Past event headliners have included Aretha Franklin, Santana, Avett Brothers, John Fogerty, Kacey Musgraves, Flo-Rida, Melissa Etheridge and many more. The best part is admission to the event is free, thanks to generous donations from organizations, including The Gilchrist Foundation.

The Gilchrist Foundation has been supporting Saturday in the Park, presented by Hardrock Hotel & Casino Sioux City, for years. In 2022, The Foundation awarded planners $150,000 for the 2023 festival held on July 1 at Grandview Park. The project grant helped organizers make the 2023 event great, including booking artists as well as providing fireworks and food and artist vendors and a Kid’s Zone.

Saturday in the Park 2023 Lineup

The summer concert event features an eclectic mix of artists. For July 1, 2023, the main headliner will be legendary group Earth, Wind & Fire. The group has scored eight number one hits and has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide. They’ve released 23 albums; eight of those albums went double platinum and hit the Top 10, making them one of the best-selling artists of all time.

They’ve won an impressive nine GRAMMY® Awards including one for Lifetime Achievement in 2012. In 2000, Earth, Wind & Fire was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, cementing their lasting impact on popular music and, in 2019, their contributions to arts and culture were acknowledged in Washington DC with the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors.

The War and Treaty, Samantha Fish, Dane Louis, T. Wilson King and the Snakecharmers, Sand and Winter Wayfarer will perform on the main stage prior to Earth, Wind & Fire starting at 12:05 p.m.

The festival also has a second stage, The Abe Stage, which showcases a diverse lineup of contemporary music on the Stone Park Boulevard side of the park. Headliners for The Abe Stage include Sioux Sound Collective, Armani White, Cal Scruby, The Irie, NUR-D, GhostCat, Gifo, Banana Cramps, 7$SQUAD and 4Worn Nation, Inc.

Food, Art and Kid Fun

In addition to the great lineup of world-class artists, eventgoers can also enjoy great festival food from several food vendors, as well as Arts Alley and the popular Kid’s Zone, which is the only part of the event that requires admission.

  • Food featured at the 2023 event includes pizza, funnel cakes, lemonade, smoothies, snow cones, gyros, kettle corn, barbecue, corndogs and every type of taco you can imagine.

  • Arts Alley returns in 2023. It features local and regional artists who sell their creations from tie-dye apparel to glass, wood, jewelry, crystals and more. There is also a chair massage, caricature artists and other surprises.

  • The Kid’s Zone, open from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., features inflatables, entertainers, food and activities to keep kids busy. It costs $20 for the entire day for the inflatables.

The festival wraps with fireworks following the performance of Earth, Wind & Fire.
