Gilchrist Foundation Awards Over $2.14 Million in Grants in 2026
The Gilchrist Foundation has a history of supporting nonprofit organizations throughout Siouxland that promote the arts and public broadcasting, wildlife and conservation and disaster relief. Through its years of grantmaking, the Foundation helps bring meaningful projects to life, strengthen communities and preserve opportunities for future generations.
For more than 25 years, the Gilchrist Foundation has continued the vision of its founder, Jocelyn Gilchrist. Guided by her passion for the arts, wildlife conservation and public broadcasting, the Foundation supports projects that foster the long-term viability of local charities rather than providing short-term operating funds.
In 2026, the Foundation awarded $2,141,216.90 in grants. Some traditional support continued, like the project grants awarded to Saturday in the Park, the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, and disaster grants given to the American Red Cross.
But there were also several grants awarded to organizations that are new to the Gilchrist Foundation or it’s been a while since they received a grant.
The following new grant recipients reflect just a small part of the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to creativity, conservation, education and community enrichment in Siouxland and beyond.
Audubon County Historical Society received a $5,000 micro grant to restore native plant ecosystems at Nathaniel Hamlin Park, supporting local habitat restoration and environmental stewardship.
City of Sioux City – Sioux City Human Rights Commission earned a $5,000 micro grant for Faces of Siouxland, a project that highlights the people and stories that contribute to the region’s diverse community.
Heartland Humane Society received a $500 micro grant to support public education programs in Clay and Union counties in South Dakota. The programs focus on responsible pet ownership, animal safety and bite prevention.

Le Mars Community School Boosters Inc. earned a $5,000 micro grant to support Bulldog Battle of the Bands 2026, an event celebrating music and providing opportunities for performers to share their talents.
Opportunities Unlimited received two micro grants to support creative expression and enrichment. A $3,500 grant will fund art supplies, display materials and keepsake artwork for Vibrant Voices, while a separate $5,000 grant will support a Therapeutic Sensory Garden.
Sac Community Center was awarded two grants to improve its facilities and services. A $5,000 micro grant will fund the purchase and installation of an assisted listening system at The Shull Center, while a $50,000 capital campaign grant will support the center’s remodel.
Sioux County Conservation Board received a $5,000 micro grant to purchase two Trackchairs, expanding opportunities for people with mobility limitations to access outdoor spaces and recreation.
South Sioux City Chamber of Commerce earned a $5,000 micro grant for a steel dog sculpture in South Sioux City, adding a public art feature to the community.
The Miracle League of Sioux City received a $5,000 micro grant to support screenings of SPIEZIO, bringing the project to audiences through film.
Together, these new awards demonstrate the range of projects supported by the Gilchrist Foundation, from music education and public art to habitat restoration, accessible recreation and community improvements. Each grant reflects the Foundation’s commitment to helping nonprofit organizations turn meaningful ideas into lasting benefits for the communities they serve.
